Hello, Beautiful! Welcome to the first blog of the Shower of Beauty. Since this is my inaugural post, I thought, why not begin with the basics? So, let’s dive into building a skincare routine today.
Currently, there’s a trend where people adhere to extensive skincare routines comprising six to ten steps or even more. Many now believe they need these routines and must invest heavily to achieve good skin. Consequently, confusion arises, with people questioning, “Am I doing enough, or am I missing something?” However, let me reassure you that you do not need an excessively elaborate daily routine to attain healthy skin.
So, how do you achieve good, healthy skin? What should your daily skincare routine entail? What are the essential steps? I understand these questions might be on your mind as well. Therefore, I’m here to clear up any confusion.
Here are the essentials of a skincare routine. These are practices everyone should follow regardless of age or specific skincare goals. Let’s explore the three skincare essentials that everyone should incorporate:
I. Cleansing – Invest in a good cleanser tailored to your skin type. Cleanse at least once daily, preferably at night, to remove makeup, sunscreen, bacteria, and impurities from your skin.
II. Moisturizing – Always moisturize after cleansing. Many mistakenly believe that those with oily skin should skip moisturizing, but this is untrue. Skipping moisturizer can actually stimulate your skin to produce more oil. Instead, find a moisturizer suitable for your skin type and its needs. Whether your skin is oily, dry, or a combination, moisturizing is essential.
III. Sun Protection – This is perhaps the most crucial step – protecting your skin. Wear sunscreen daily and reapply throughout the day. Harmful UV radiation can cause skin damage, particularly if your skin barrier is already compromised. It can also accelerate skin aging, exacerbate acne or acne spots, cause sunburn, and increase irritation, especially for those with sensitive skin. Before anything else in your skincare routine, take sun protection seriously and apply it correctly.
These three steps are non-negotiable in your daily routine. Ensure you incorporate them if you’re looking to establish a skincare regimen. I advise against adding too many steps and recommend keeping it simple. Too many products can potentially create additional skin issues. Skincare should always be enjoyable and stress-free, not burdensome with an excessive number of steps. However, if you derive pleasure from skincare, feel free to experiment. Additionally, if you have specific skin concerns you’re addressing, you may need additional products. But always remember, “less is more.”
